Hip-Hop Saved My Life

Hip-hop’s probably one of the most commonly written-off genres. I mean, “everything but rap and country” is probably Facebook’s second favourite artist after “whatever’s on the radio,” and maybe once I feel sufficiently informed on the genre I’ll write one of these for country music, who knows? What I do know is that until about a couple of years ago, I was also one of the many averse to hip-hop, and since then it’s become one of, if not my very favourite musical genres. When I see people with the same attitude as I had, I’m prepared to believe it may not be people’s cup of tea - after all, we can’t all like the same things and I’ll admit there’s not much metal I’ve heard that appeals to me - but I also feel as if they’re missing out on a whole vast world of some of the most exciting and inventive music out there. 

This is a list of some ways to try and start enjoying it. Hopefully it won’t feel patronising or bossy, and I hope even more that at least one person will find recommendations they enjoy from it or maybe change their mind about the genre.
